Radio Creates Discussion With A Short On Vitrification

Radio have produced an animated infographic in collaboration with VICE and UBS on the process and ethical discussions surrounding vitrification.

Vitrification is a cutting edge technology for cryopreservation (freezing) of embryos and eggs, a medical advancement that has grown in popularity over the past 5 years. It’s growth essentially allows women and couples to conceive children at a much older age, which in turn is challenging what we’ve come to expect as standard societal timelines.

Radio’s infographic has been expertly achieved with sweet animations and loveable characters. The entire piece has been reduced to a two-colour palette with a half-tone texture that adds just the right amount of pattern in what is a pretty minimal illustration style. The sequence shifts between denser scenes where repeated illustrations act almost like patterns, to single objects placed on a flat colour base. Despite the sometime reduced style, the animation is anything but, with fluid motions that cleverly link scenes together creating a momentum that rarely breaks throughout the entire piece.

The result is a style that’s hard not to fall in love with. On trend flesh-tones and fruity greens, with a cast of perfectly executed illustrations makes for a gorgeous and insightful work that’s easy to watch more than once.
