Overview

As part of a school project, I wanted to promote a made-up 2D game that displays and portrays the beauty of Japanese and Chinese culture, which is something that I personally have a deep connection with. As part of a brief, these concept arts for my game were all inspired by one or multiple artist models, this includes artists and illustrators such as Lee Jungho, Ken Wong, NanoMortis, Olly Moss and Zeen Chin. Another inspiration I took was from Japanese mythology, for example, the legendary nine-tailed fox was a primary inspiration of the fox character in this game. I also took inspiration from elements of Chinese and Japanese culture, such as the architecture (Chinese temples called "Miao"), iconic nature and landmarks (for example, the first illustration was based off the "bamboo forest", Arashiyama in Japan) and just normal things that can be seen often in China, such as the rowing boats "Hua Xiao Chuan" that fishermen use in rural areas.
