The production of Anchor, Birds of Tokyo was an individual task designed to isolate and emphasise symbolic references in order to create an interrelation between the lyrics and the intended storyline. This was achieved through manipulation and use of; colour symbolism, after effects, shutter speed & aperture alteration, masking techniques and deliberate subject framing choices. An example of this is evident at 1:31 min, the blue colour is symbolic of depression and sorrow. In contrast, the triangular shape epitomises strength and stability. In correlation with the shot, this implies that the strength is ‘within him.’ Further, he strives to be strong, and not let surrounding events control him. This reinforces the concept of ‘mental strength’ which is later explored in the film when he passes away.
