The author

Rapidly developing a reputation for genuine artistic originality delivered with inimitable personal quirk, Chereine Waddell was voted Make-Up Artist of the Year at the 2016 Australian Hair Fashion Awards, being placed number one on the judge’s scorecard of none other than global industry icon Val Garland.

With a strong background in fashion, fine arts and SFX it was Chereine’s innate understanding and appreciation for colour, design and technique that drove her into a career in makeup & now towards design. With a very holistic approach to her craft, Chereine oscillates fluidly between commercial and creative editorial work, working alongside esteemed Hair Fashion and Beauty photographers as a makeup artist.

Appointed as beauty editor since 2017 for Australian hair fashion and beauty magazine Laud, Chereine when not on set or in the class room is orchestrating creative shoots and pitching concepts for editorials or product shoots, creating community between the arts & fashion.

Overview

In this book the author challenges the generic conventions of beauty, presenting a diverse range of emotional states as the inspirational ignition point for her make-up designs. Recollecting experiences through her own childhood, the author explores feelings and experiences that are commonplace amongst many children and adolescents, and as such Beyond the Face provides a broad and diverse audience proposition. Beyond those readers who share the same professional space as the author and seek inspiration within the craft, the book will certainly invoke feelings of nostalgia amongst a much larger readership that will recall similar emotional journeys and youthful adventures. The re-occurring topic of the author’s relationship with her mother, who is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, provides another angle for consumption, with raw and undoctored commentary that reveals a personal catharsis.
