Life is not just “black and white” it has many “grey” areas where decisions we make begin to intertwine with consequences which we may experience later in history. Survival is one of the most important issues facing our society today. Our interconnectedness affects our survival and draws attention to how fragile life is. In my body of work I have explored my own journey of having chronic lung disease and the importance of lungs to help me breathe to stay alive.
The series has been created using some of my own personal artefacts to highlight how invasive but helpful they have been to me. “Breathless fight” also expresses the responsibility we have as individuals to be observant of our surroundings, protect our bodies and collectively care for our earth in order to make better choices for life to continue.
Leonardo Davinci’s anatomical drawings show the intricacies of human organs and William Kentridge’s emotionally powerful work have been an integral guide for my own artmaking.
