My 2019 HSC Major Work, aimed to represent the unique relationship that exists between siblings through building a visual language that relied on facial expressions and gestures when the siblings are in the company of one another and also alone, to communicate their close connection. The themes that resonate through the series aim to express the importance that such a relationship has on molding personalities and individual identity. Through the subject matter I wanted to express their relationship with each other and how features of the relationship can be carried or mirrored within other sibling pairs. I was inspired to create such a series because my intention was to illustrate how important sibling relationships are in shaping character. I intended the responder to feel as though, through examination of each portrait to become familiar with each subject, to be drawn into their mood and the emotional state that they are experiencing at that time.
