Enso, in Zen philosophy is a hand drawn circle expressing the freedom of the mind allowing the body to create.I curated this promotional poster in collaboration with a Brisbane-based artist who captured the essence of Enso through a life-drawing of a performer. The use of earthy tones and organic shape display the simplistic and primal concept of Enso. This is heightened by the contrast between the bold, brown brush strokes to the lighter and more detailed subject in the centre of the image. While considering both space, shape and subject, I decided to position two Enso strokes within the image. I decided to add Kanji under the English text in bigger and bolder font to convey the cultural significance to the viewer. I continued to place the text along a diagonal, utilising the space around the focal points. Consequently, the focus of the Enso symbol is reinforced through the heightening of empty space, allowing the viewer to gauge the show through artistic, cultural and factual lenses.
