I am interested in documenting the mundane, unimaginative life of an ordinary person and how the use of an item can create an ‘escape from reality’. This escape creates a false fantasy within the person's imagination, they desperately crave in real life.

I'm inspired by my friend, whose stressful and fast-paced life as a typical high schooler is melted away by her fantasies and desires. I found myself intrigued by what peoples dreams and ‘happy places’ are and how they transport to these fantastical worlds they dream of. I took notice of my friend's obsession with books, especially fantasy fiction. She would submerge herself into unimaginable worlds where there would be mystical lands of rolling fields against a sunset sky and magical powers to talk to animals. I discovered books have the ability to transport you somewhere without moving your feet. With this knowledge, I decided to focus on how these ‘magical books’ unlock the imagination of people's minds.
