In my photographs I used backlight to illuminate the smoke. The rim of light around the model reflects the idea that their happiness in smoking is only surface deep. I found the consistent use of negative space to be useful in drawing the viewers attention to the subject of smoke. The lack of background noise creates emphasis and highlights the effect that smoking has on a person as they become distant from their family. The use of shadows creates a deeper mood and implicates negative connotations. I have made the smoke green to symbolise the idea of sickness or poison.
