Flights of Fantasy represents a personal and nervous foray into the exciting and sometimes frustrating world of renovations and interior design. While maintaining its footprint, the bathroom is a dramatic transformation of the original space. The retention (reluctant) of glass bricks and original doors (but now sliding) is the only remaining DNA from its past life. The intention is to create a functional room featuring a sleek, classic design with twists of glamour and the whimsical. The industrial harshness of the greyscale palette dictates the tile selection. Added wood features generate warmth and complement the existing doors.
Accenting the background are the fittings, customised bath, basin and cabinetry. As a tribute to the room’s circular aspect, penny rounds are introduced; the art and framed plates similarly provide relief from straight lines.
The selected décor pieces are symbolic– representing my husband’s terminal illness and final flight of fantasy; wherever that may be.
