I was inspired to do this shoot after finding myself in an instagram-hole of strong, successful, unapologetic women’s profiles and posts following the recent Abortion ban in the U.S state of Alabama. My friend Godet (pictured) was the perfect person to ask model in my eyes with her natural confidence and laissez-faire attitude. I directed her to simultaneously carry both sharp yet tired looks, as if to say “I’m fed up with this, we deserve better.”
I wanted to keep the colour palette for the photo relatively neutral to both duplicate an urban scenario feel and to ensure there was no distraction from Godet’s demanding stare. I took the photo from the ground at the feet of the staircase to assist in giving Godet that authoritative aura, overlooking the viewer.
