The author

My name is Millie and I am currently seeking to study a postgraduate course of UX & Web Design. I have received a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Sydney. I have always had a passion for fine arts and design - drawing, painting, graphic design, pottery. I would love to sharpen my skills and get ahead in the web development field as I believe these skills can help me excel in my future career as an architect.

Overview

This project was an exploration of unique shading techniques using geometric shapes. Using varying sizes of circles, I was able to depict the shadows and imperfections of my self portrait. The gold paint was actually a beautiful accident - I had spilt paint from a separate piece but embraced this... This was a friendly reminder to accept these "mistakes" in strides. This series tested my patience and from it, I developed a passion and appreciation of intricate detail.

In 2015, the piece Golden Scale Girl (side profile) won a Gold Key Award (highest award given) at the Scholastic Art & Writing Award in the United States and was featured on the front cover of the award brochure.
