For my Year 12 Design and Technology MDP, I decided to address the need of poor education in Tanzania. Primary school is taught in their native language Swahili, however, secondary school is taught in English, forcing the majority of students to drop out as they don't know English. To combat this problem, I created an education package, 'GLIP' (Global Literacy Improvement Program), designed for Australian volunteers to take with them on their journey to teach the Tanzanian students structured lessons focused on learning English. This program is also beneficial for the volunteers, as the package includes a 'Teachers Guide' which gives them tips & strategies of how to deliver their lessons. Another element in the package is the song, which targets Tanzania's singing culture to teach them. The package was designed to be reusable, using chalk to write in the blackboard strips in the book, reducing the amount of waste & pressure on the students to buy resources.
