Making of "The Whole Journey"

The author

I am a year 12 student at Cashmere High School. I have always enjoyed drawing & love how creative media can help us experience life in new & unexpected ways.

Growing up in Afghanistan, I had the privilege of experiencing different cultures & hearing stories from all around the world. Returning to NZ, I have continued to grow & develop & love to express my unique experiences & ideas through my art & animation.

Over the past few years, I have developed both my interest in traditional drawing & painting techniques, digital art & design. I began with stop motion animation & then progressed to traditional 2D & digital 2D/3D animation techniques. I appreciate a combination of frame by frame & rigged animation.

I have helped start & run an animation club at school (covering the 12 principles of animation). This year, I have especially focused on enthusing others to animate, by creating a set of grease pencil tutorials and demonstration videos, as well as working on my own projects.

Overview

I had been thinking of animating an Afghan story for some time now. This story captures the struggles and dark times of an Afghan girl, but also her transformative journey to healing and wholeness.

Here is a little of the behind the scenes design work.
