I was contacted by a independent jewellery brand in Sydney for their new spring line. The company is run by Namika- a South Asian woman.
Namika briefed myself and the hair stylist, models, makeup artists and assistants on the concept behind the shoot weeks prior.
"When I was younger I used to be so ashamed going to a 7/11 at a petrol station in ethnic attire after a wedding or function. I would refuse to get out of the car to avoid embarrassment. This shoot is to juxtapose that shame and develop it into pride and carelessness for cultural expression in white Australia."
Due to my reliability with the concept and the bond myself and the models made after a long discussion with Namika - the shoot was successful!
The images were later featured in the art exhibition "Exodus" which paid tribute to specifically POC creatives in Sydney.
