I spent some time travelling along the Wild Coast in Transkei, South Africa. This is where I met Hein.
Hein left his home in the city - giving up the lifestyle he knew and most of what he owned - and set out for a journey, with nothing more than a backpack.
He wanted to see the world and experience all of its cultures, but most of all he wanted to live off the land and give back to the Earth whatever he took from it. He didn't stay in one place for too long, and thus lived by trading - the idea that you never really own anything, but that what you do have now is only on loan to you until you exchange it for the next thing you might need.
It's amazing how many friends he's made along the way - knowing the importance of having connections and having some kind of support, and also being a support to others - even if it's for a short time.
