Overview

Inspired by the recent surge in mental health awareness, my work highlights these recurring appearances which attempt to shed light on psychiatric disabilities. My work also aims to mimic the concepts expressed within TS Eliot’s poem, Rhapsody on a Windy Night, in which a persona experiences haunting memories from the past.At the beginning of every stanza, there is a direct reference to time, which reflects that while the persona is aware of his surroundings, he is more focused upon his memories and the vulnerability that accompanies them. This is connected to my work as the subject is fixated on the vulnerability of her human emotions and connections, but attempts to persevere a sense of identity, despite her monotonous surroundings. Drawing upon these two concepts, I create my four piece collection, in an endeavour to eliminate the stigma engulfed by schizophrenia.
