The author

I recently graduated from a bachelor of Veterinary Technology from the University of Queensland. I have always had a passion for the arts but after school I felt the only way I would be able to get a job is with a science degree. Now that I am working I realise it is so much more important to take a chance on doing something I love rather than settling. I have always been interested in art and fashion but now I want more. I want to be able to create my own style and fashion as well as admire other people's. This year I began putting my own design ideas into fruition and by applying for design school I hope to be able to take my ideas even further and begin creating on a large scale for other people.

Overview

The idea for the reversible jacket came from my wish to have a vast assortment of jackets in the winter yet not wanting to buy unnecessary items or contribute to the mass of clothing that goes to waste at the end of each season. By making a jacket reversible my aim was to make a garment that looked as though it was a variety of jackets when in reality it was only one. By doing this I was able to save space and money. Furthermore, when making the garment I was able to use less fabric then the patter required as there was no need to make a lining, as the second jacket became the lining. I used applique on the turquoise side as I wanted there to be a link between the two sides of the jacket.
