This textile art was created as per one of my year 11 assessments. The assessment was to create any textile item that included 4-6 manipulation techniques and a portfolio was to be made with it. My project was designed to reflect the trend and urge of society to "save the turtles". The large scale of the project demonstrates the immense urge for change within our society in order to preserve the natural environment and wildlife/sea life by developing new strategies and more. Different types of patterned/colourful fabrics are also used to support the theme of a fiction-like turtle. In addition to this, the fabric types used such as fleece, cotton and satin create a soft texture. It is stuffed with Dacron Fiberfil to further imitate the 3D natural appearance of a turtle. The blue fabric used on the ‘head’, ‘legs’ and ‘tail’ of the textile art are large in size to highlight the features of each being eyes for the head, toes for the legs and a defined shape for the tail.
