Silhouettes of Aotearoa is a series of images showcasing dark environments, such as an ominous dock filled with cranes, against the backdrop of the New Zealand sunset. I wanted to create an almost dreamlike quality to the images in order to make them feel timeless in a way. Creating a sense of scale was also important to me with these photos, as I wanted them to feel somewhat imposing to the viewer, but also mysterious enough to draw the viewer in.
The narrative I envisioned these photos telling is a dreamlike sequence of mostly unconnected images that are united by being silhouettes taken at sunset. I wanted to give the impression that the viewer goes on a sort of mystical journey with them, hopefully having a strong impact on the viewer.
