The project brief was to design a performing arts centre in Sydney’s Domain. The design concept is engaged as a series of three enclosed pivots placed along the pivotal axes of site mappings. The course's first design exercise was to investigate how architect Jorn Utzon used parametrics to define his design strategies. Next, I applied a layering strategy these parametrics to formulate a possible design direction for my own project.
The first two images objectify these iterative strategies developed in previous exercises. By stablising a certain pivot point and translating others exponentially, dimensional expansion and compression occurs, influencing form generation decisions
“Positive” is a plywood model depicting an interesting expansion and compression occurrence in the investigation. “Negative” is an inverted Perspex model of the positive. This model exemplifies the relationship between positive and negative spaces.
