“The Edge of Existence” was my year 12 major work. The artworks were each printed on 610mm x 1600mm banners. The artwork features three species of endangered big cats, the South China Tiger, Iberian Lynx and Amur Leopard. The bold, contrasting colours of the sunsets were deliberately chosen to draw attention to the artwork and make it stand out amongst the other artworks displayed along with providing aesthetic properties. The large water mass represents the surreal nature of their existence as they dwindle on extinction as the sun sets on their time on Earth. When hung, the artwork stands at approximately 2 meters tall. The size of the artwork emphasised the severity of the animals’ situations. This piece was selected for art express 2020 and will be exhibited at Margaret Whitlam Galleries MWG.
