When my mum was diagnosed with IPF during my HSC, I decided to base The Gift on the concept of "giving something up for the benefit of others," showcasing the thought process many organ donors go through before making their decision. Although cliché, this topic runs deep in our family and I believe it needs more attention.
The book was made with the software Clip Studio Paint and the Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet. The style and concept were largely inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, and online artist Wang Ling (WLOP). The works of both artists mentioned have a beautiful style and a certain feel about them that has always stuck with me.
I believe a story that sticks deserves a style that sticks and vice versa, but what is it that makes these artists so notable for me? I drew from the ethereal beauty and stunning details of Wang Ling's creations and the enticing, mystical, allure that Miyazaki's works are so well known for, to create what I hope is something memorable and notable of my own.
