The author

I am a 20 year old student undertaking a Bachelor of Communications at Auckland University of Technology. After taking design at high school, where I gained Excellence endorsement for both my Level 2 and 3 portfolios, I was introduced to an industry which I see myself becoming a part of in the future. I have always had a passion for art, and I enjoy the process of creating unique pieces for both myself and clients. I see art as a means of communication that can supersede words and actions, and in our current world where symbols are increasingly replacing words as our primary form of communication, I believe the art and design industries are as important as ever - and I am excited to become a part of them.

Overview

I explored the concept of environmentalism with the idea of tea party - minus the humans. I wanted to depict how nature thrives in environments without human involvement. I incorporated Mandala imagery, used in Buddhist methodology to represent the universe/cosmos as a whole, calling our role in the Earth's wider ecosystem into attention, to nurture and protect our natural environment and the creatures that inhabit it.
