Overview

The clay series uses the short, simple phrase ‘gone’ to convey the message of irreversible damage taking place on coral reefs around the world’s oceans. The abundance of coral diminishes with each letter to represent the continuing loss of coral in the world’s oceans. My medium expresses both the bleaching effect of the coral from societies lack of action. Like the frog analogy; if you place a frog in cold water & gradually increase the heat it will cook and die, however if you place a frog in hot water it will jump out.
100,000 plus marine animals are killed by plastic bags annually. Plastic does not break down and is a significant issue created by society. The colour of the medium reflects both a mood/blue, the ocean and contrasted with the white silhouette of the single use plastic bags. Source; http://oceancrusaders.org/plastic-crusades/plastic-statistics. The medium; Cyanotype, creates an image echoing jellyfish in the ocean and contrasts the plastic bags to highlight pollution.
