The ‘uncanny valley’ generally refers to faces on dolls, robots images that resemble a person, but are not quite the real thing, its a state of being that is half way between human and alien.
In this instance I decided to use it in the context of perspective, something that seems real and familiar, but not quite there, as the cropping and angle of the camera denies the viewer a normal view. I aimed everything I have shot to look real, but somewhat surreal as well.
One of my biggest influences in photography would have to be Aleksandr Rodchenko. The way he took pictures of sometimes mundane things with an intersting and unique perspective has been inspirational in how I take my own. The path less followed is an ideal in my opinion.
Prior to this year I hadn’t done much photography, so I’ve really enjoyed the use of the rental cameras at Billy blue, as its given the means and the inspiration to improve my capability with photography.
