My work, ‘We stem from the same fabric as everything around us’, explores the relationship between people and nature. As many modern cultures have placed themselves at the top of a biotic hierarchy, leaving the natural world at the bottom, this work questions the disregard and greed for power we people impose on our environment and the consequences of such greed. My images suggest the placement of people and nature as equals.
By blending a human figure, representative of the collective human culture, with their natural surroundings, the darkness of human-imposed power and self-appointed dominance is questioned as it is rendered a silhouette by the power of natural light. The coexistence of the figure with nature illuminates the inalienable value and importance of balance in the natural world.
