A piece created for my VET studies course, the unit covered the skills and knowledge required to embellish a garment using hand or machine techniques. The unit applies to selecting and applying an embellishment on garments, either at the completion of production or during the production stage. I chose to create an elegant gown that was designed as a was a memorial piece that would draw the eye of anyone who walks past.
It was created to reflect on Anzac Day in a memorial way. To achieve this I created small Flanders poppies from white chiffon fabric, to make the natural curled flowers effect I cut circles and singed the edges with a lighter. To finish them off I sewed cotton manipulated into the anther and filament of the flower into the center. A basic square-neck bodice pattern was used, continuing down with a three-piece skirt and a tulle feature at the bottom that's purpose was to add an interesting element to the dress and separate the heaviness of the white colours used.
