This collection of photographic media explores the wilderness of materialism by subverting techniques of fashion photography. The motif of plastic is intended to convey the notion of consumerism, vanity and narcissism of youth culture. The idea of wrapping my models in a large transparent sheet of plastic and incorporating cosmetics and glamour procedures further challenges Western societies desire for a 'Barbie doll’ appearance. Inspired by the works of Haruhiko Kawaguchi, I have represented the organic qualities of plastic as plastic itself fits within the materialistic, fashion concept. The performance of my models was vital to imbue dualities of awkwardness and tension as well as seduction and danger. The use of the colour pink is seen across the entirety of my work to strictly add zest and vividness for aesthetic and stylistic purposes relating to fashion photography.
